Beetroot Bread

2 cups All purpose flour/ Maida

1 cup Bread flour

1 Egg

1 tsp Instant dry yeast

1 tbsp Sugar

1 tsp Salt

1 tbsp Oil

1/4 cup Beetroot powder

1 cup Water


1In a bowl, mix all the ingredients together except water for a minute or two.

2Add water. Knead for 9-10 minutes. Add 2-3 extra water if the dough is too stiff.

3Now add oil. Knead for another 3-4 minutes.

4The dough should be smooth and shiny.

5Shape it into a ball and place it into a well oiled bowl. Cover the bowl with cling film. Let it rise.

6The dough should double in volume.

7Punch down the dough. Knead for 3-4 minutes.

8Shape it into a loaf. Grease and dust a loaf tin. Place the dough into the tin . Let it rise .

9Preheat the oven at 180 degrees C.

10Place the tin into the oven. Bake for 30 minutes . Take the tin out. Egg wash the crust. Place it back into the oven. Bake for 3-4 minutes until the crust is golden brown in colour.

11Turn off the oven. Remove the bread from the tin. Apply butter liberally.Let the bread cool well before slicing.
